Sneak Preview Of Boss Radio KHJ Los Angeles April 1965

This aircheck features the debut of Boss Radio on KHJ-AM in Los Angeles from April of 1965. Everything that WABC was in NYC, KHJ set out to serve that role in Los Angeles.

This scoped aircheck features the Boss Jocks Dave Diamond, Robert W. Morgan and Roger Christian from the first days of the new Boss format. Boss Radio was born with an attitude as you'll also hear a promo that asks listeners to check out what they're doing, then go to KFWB and KRLA to hear what they're not doing.

As a bonus cut this CD includes a 9 minute scoped aircheck of a morning from September 1974 when John Lennon guest hosted the morning show. John plays cuts off his latest album on this sample.

You'll also get a 7 minute scoped aircheck of the final moments of 93 KHJ as it flipped from Top 40 to Country in September of 1980.

Here's your chance to grab the early sounds of the radio station that ruled the roost in Boss Angeles for almost twenty years.

Robert W. Morgan KHJ 1965/KMPC 1983

This CD features two stops from the career of Robert W. Morgan who was one of the legendary voices of Los Angeles radio

The first cut is a 37 minute unscoped example of Robert W. Morgan on KHJ from 1965. Morgan was one of the original Boss Jocks and did the morning show. Along with "Morganizing" a high school cheerleader he brings in fellow Boss Jock Real Don Steele who's on location giving away a new Mustang.

The next cut presents Morgan on KMPC-AM just before Christmas of 1983. While KMPC's format was more laid back than KHJ's it's still the same Robert W. Morgan. This 35 minute unscoped sample includes the commercials, news, traffic reports and a segment with John Robinson who was the coach of the then Los Angeles Rams.

Tom Donahue KMPX-FM 1967

One day while he was sitting with his wife listening to his record collection, former Top 40 DJ Tom Donahue wondered why nobody was playing this music on the radio. Tom set out to change that. This is the very early example of the revolution he started on KMPX in San Francisco from 1967.

This is a 56 minute unscoped aircheck of Tom Donahue on the air with his evening show on KMPX in 1967. Along with the mix of music which spans from rock and roll to folk to Ravi Shankar, Tom clues you in to what was going on with the San Francisco scene and the clubs.

As it was in so many cases reagrding FM Radio in the sixties, this is an item that was taped off the air. It was also an evening when Donahue was having technical problems with his microphone. The sound quality isn't as good as I typically like to offer but the historical value of the content still makes this a worthy addition to your collection.

If you always wondered what the early days of Rock and Roll on FM radio sounded like, you can't get much earlier than this.

Radio Across America 1971

This CD features the sounds of great stations including WFIL, WAPE, WWDJ, WRKO, WDRC, WKBW, WHB, KDWB, KHJ, KLIF, WCFL, CKLW, KIMN, KILT, KCBQ, WQXI, KYA, WQAM and MANY more! Each stop gives you a couple of minutes of a visit with what each radio station was up to and sounding like in 1971.

The history this CD contains of what radio once sounded like is a one of a kind experience.

Morton Downey Jr. KDEO-AM San Diego February 1964

You probably remember Morton Downey Jr. as a talk show host whose mouth was loud and his show was wild. Before he was a loudmouth on TV he was a screaming DJ in the days of Beatlemania. His DJ career saw him make marks at stations from Florida to California and many points in between. Seems like Mort was competing with his friend Joey Reynolds for the most times fired from a radio station.

This aircheck of Mort from his DJ days features him as the PM Drive jock on KDEO-AM in San Diego. You'll hear The Mad Lad (that was what Mort called himself) spin the hits of the day. He also shares the story of bringing his baby daughter home just a few days earlier. This is a fun example of the West Coast radio sound from that time performed by a name you never thought you would hear do it.
